Doris Ruth Smith, 96, of Englewood passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018 at Inglenook Assisted Living for Ladies. Born on September 4, 1921 in Huntington County, Indiana to the late James Myrtle (Hull) Minsel, she had been a resident of Sarasota County since 1989 coming from Ft. Wayne, Indiana. A loving wife, mother and homemaker for her family, Doris was a well-known award-winning artist who exhibited throughout South West Florida. She was a Past President of the Englewood Art Center, the Venice Art League and Charlotte County Visual Arts. She enjoyed vocal and saxophone performances at church and the Park Forest Community. She was a member of the Englewood United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Raymond Wayne Smith in 2006. Survivors include her four daughters: Ramonda (John) Wertz of Redmond, Washington; Cheryl Dobecki of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Ranelle (Robert) Furniss of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Deane’ (Mike) Holderman of LaFontaine, Indiana, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Private services and inurnment will be in Englewood United Methodist Church – Memorial Garden at the convenience of the family.
